Since the release of Post Traumatic Growth, David Biga has demonstrated an ability to simplify complex ideas which has become apparent to an increasing number of supporters. With that ability in mind, we listened to his 4th project, Lemonade Stand.
Lemonade Stand is an eleven-track project, adding to David Biga‘s now four-album discography. The track list immerses listeners into Biga‘s life over the last couple of years. From lyrical mentions referring to relatable struggles and abstract dialogue referring to dealing with the stresses caused by the pandemic, each track provides insight into how Biga turned some of life’s lemons into lemonade.
It is also worth mentioning that there is at least one song for every type of hip-hop listener, as the album branches out into several different sub-genres. Lemonade Stand appears to be a symbolic representation of Biga’s choice to love himself and each song reminds listeners of their ability to do the same.
The album artwork created by Ghanaian artist @themanyphacedgod (Samuel Blankson) portrays David Biga standing behind a lemonade stand floating in a body of water. With a closer look, this water appears to symbolize depression in the form of drowning by highlighting two hands floating underwater holding up two glasses of lemonade next to a sign reading “Lemons 4 Change”.
Although the album has a simple title, Biga and his Lemonade Stand goes much deeper than a simple glass of lemonade. The Chicago, Illinois, and Dayton, Ohio-based record label Novelist Music Group posted the artwork on Instagram with the caption: “An airplane crashes in the middle of the ocean. Soon after, a floating lemonade stand comes to the surface. It’s been a while, can I get you some lemonade?”
